It was today announced that Three Arrows’ homegrown series Awesome Animals and Mini Me will be back for a new series later in 2024. 37 episodes have been commissioned - each celebrating a different animal - giving 5-7yr olds a chance to learn fascinating facts, play games, dance and sing.
A new segment will feature in the show, that sees presenter Radzi Chinyanganya and his exercise buddies teach kids how to move like creatures, from snakes and scorpions to bats and butterflies. Set in five inspiring natural locations around the globe, the environments were created using Virtual Production, significantly reducing the production’s carbon footprint than if cast and crew had physically visited each location.
Innovation agency and Virtual Production specialists Final Pixel designed and produced the 3D photo-real environments which were rendered using Unreal Engine, shown on a giant LED volume behind the contributors, and tracked to match the physical movement of the cameras in the studio. This is the first time this technology has been used in this way for a Children’s production, enabling Radzi and the kids – who had a range of accessibility needs – to appear as if in a jungle, in the savannah, next to a mountain lake, in the arctic and on an idyllic tropical island without ever leaving the comfort of a Maidenhead studio!
Awesome Animals and Mini Me Series 2 (37x11’) was commissioned by Lucy Murphy, Director of Sky Kids for Zai Bennett, Managing Director of Content for Sky UK and Ireland. The Commissioning Editor for Sky is Ian France. The series is produced by Three Arrows Media; Jon Hancock is the Executive Producer. Launching in late 2024.
